Ready to hit the trails but not sure where to start? Join us for the LOSATX Intro to Backpacking Campout!

Event Description

Join Latino Outdoors for a 3-day, 2-night Intro to Backpacking Campout at Inks Lake State Park! This beginner-friendly camping trip is designed for participants who want to learn the basics of backpacking, outdoor skills, and camping in a supportive and welcoming community environment.

***Please note: Submitting an Eventbrite registration enters you into a lottery for the trip. It does not guarantee a spot. Selected participants will be invited via email to complete a follow-up Google Form. To remain eligible, participants must complete the form and attend a mandatory pre-trip workshop on April 23, 2026 at REI at 6:00 PM.
Final Campout participants will be chosen after these steps are completed.

This trip is perfect for people who:

Have never backpacked before

Want to learn outdoor skills

Want to camp and build community outdoors

Want to feel more confident recreating outside

Want to learn backpacking basics and try gear before investing.

Participants will camp together, learn backpacking skills, and complete a 5-mile roundtrip day hike on Saturday while carrying a backpacking pack.

Throughout the weekend, participants will learn:

How to pack and fit a backpack

Backpacking cooking basics

Trail etiquette and Leave No Trace

Map and Navigation basics

How to choose a backcountry campsite

Camp setup and outdoor living skills

Latino Outdoors will provide most backpacking gear for participants
