Three campouts. Three regions. One unforgettable c

Three campouts. Three regions. One unforgettable collaboration🏕️

This spring, Outdoor Afro and Latino Outdoors brought communities together across Texas, the Chicago region, and the San Francisco Bay Area for weekends rooted in connection, culture, healing, and joy.

In Texas, participants shared cultural traditions through molcajete salsa making, music, and campfire building. Near Chicago, campers explored the Indiana Dunes and even helped rescue a bluebird named Sheila. In the Bay Area, adventurers embraced rainy weather with camping, hiking, tidepooling, and astronomy activities between showers.

“This campout was definitely one for the books, the kind of gathering that stays with you long after the event has passed,” shared a Latino Outdoors Volunteer Outings Leader.

“There was a lot of smiling, getting to know new people, and reconnecting around the fire pit. I'm so appreciative of the opportunity to make these connections,” shared an Outdoor Afro leader.

Across every gathering, participants reflected on the power of being outdoors in community and the lasting friendships formed along the way.

This Queer Caminata at Presidio Overlook brought

This Queer Caminata at Presidio Overlook brought community members together for a 6-mile hike with five scenic viewing points along the way. Curated to provide a much-needed safe space for queer, trans, and questioning individuals, these gatherings continue to create opportunities for connection and belonging in la naturaleza 🌱

The group shared, “We are blessed in our comunidad jotería to have such iconic leaders and trailblazers!!!” Throughout the hike, new friendships and meaningful conversations emerged as the San Francisco Bay Area Latino Outdoors community continues cultivating affirming spaces rooted in joy and collective care.
