Summary
Several positions are being advertised for multiple National Park Service locations. See the “Duties” section for locations and anticipated Term Not to Exceed (NTE) periods.

The Park Guide provides various services to visitors which include giving talks, interpreting natural and historic features, answering questions, and guiding tours.

Duties
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency’s sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.

Park Guide Standard Duties:

  • Staff information counter in a visitor center.
  • Answer questions on a variety of subjects.
  • Present limited and repetitive pre-established talks including introductions to films, map talks, and static exhibit interpretation.
  • Guide small parties (up to 20 people) on short walks.
  • Performs duties including programs that require application of broad subject-matter knowledge of the park.
  • Guide large groups (up to 50 people) on longer walks or programs.
  • Provide a wide range of services to park visitors.
  • Orient and explain current park events and warn of safety hazards

1 vacancy located at the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville, TN. Term NTE 4 years, Salary $39,576-$51,446.

6 vacancies located at the Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia, PA. Term NTE 18 months. Salary $43,550-$56,612.
