Position Overview: The Merchandising Assistant supports the Buyer and Merchandising Lead in planning and executing the assortment of products for our four Park Store locations. The seasonal nature of our work creates distinctive annual cycles of planning and operations. During the busy summer season, this position serves as an important liaison between the stores, warehouse, and office. During the winter season, this position plans assortments and creates store planograms. By helping to maximize retail sales, this position plays a critical role in fulfilling our mission to preserve and protect Glacier National Park.

Essential Functions (Major Duties or Responsibilities):

STORE MERCHANDISING AND OPERATIONS – 40%

  • Take the lead in store set up and ensure that product is well merchandised
  • Develop training tools and checklists to clarify stocking priorities
  • Train seasonal staff on stocking best practices during orientation and reinforce stocking strategies when working in the stores
  • Support general operations by visiting the stores on a regular basis to ensure they are running smoothly, well-stocked, visually appealing, and clean
  • Maintain and update store signage throughout the summer season as needed
  • Take the lead in moving and substituting product to keep the stores well-stocked, as warehouse stock levels fluctuate in-season
  • Communicate product updates and other relevant information to store and warehouse staff in a clear and professional manner
  • Monitor and deliver supplies to the Park Stores as needed (including register tape, cleaning products, office supplies, etc.)
  • Participate in rotation of On-Call responsibilities during the summer season
  • Work shifts in the Park Stores, as needed, performing the duties of Sales Associate and Lead roles

GENERAL WAREHOUSE SUPPORT – 30%

  • Spot check inventory counts in-store as needed, update inventory counts in Retail Pro, and communicate discrepancies to the Warehouse Manager
  • Monitor Product Notes Sheets for each store location and facilitate the completion of tasks
  • Lead preparations to close stores at the end of the summer season
  • Visit the stockrooms on a regular basis to ensure that product is well organized and stock levels are appropriate
  • Cross train in a broad range of warehouse duties
  • Assist with the season end and year end physical inventory process
  • Deliver product to the stores as needed

PRODUCT ASSORTMENT PLANNING – 25%

  • Work closely with the Buyer and Merchandising Lead to plan the assortment and layout for the Park Stores
  • Build planograms and floor plans for each retail store location
  • Assist the Buyer and Merchandising Lead in planning and creating signage for the Park Stores to encourage a seamless and efficient shopping experience
  • Assist the Buyer and Merchandising Lead in developing exit strategies for underperforming product
  • Assist in setting the Point of Sales system minimums and maximums by store and monitor them to ensure the stores get the product they need through the replenishment system

OTHER DUTIES – 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned. The duties performed in this role will evolve and require close coordination with the retail team.
