For our annual Semillitas Outdoors event, we will be using ethically sourced native plants and objects we find at the Humboldt Coast Nature Center to create our Cyanotype print. After our art process, we will be having a small family friendly exploration of the dunes.

What is Cyanotype Art?

Cyanotype art is a type of photography where you create images using a special chemical process. You put the chemicals on paper or fabric, then expose it to sunlight. Anything that blocks the sunlight, like objects or drawings, will leave a white shape, and the rest of the paper will turn blue. The result is a cool, blue-and-white print! It’s one of the oldest photography techniques, and it’s super easy to do.

Que es Cianotipia?

El arte de la cianotipia es un tipo de fotografía en la que se crean imágenes usando un proceso químico especial. Se ponen los químicos sobre papel o tela, luego se expone al sol. Cualquier cosa que bloquee la luz solar, como objetos o dibujos, dejará una forma blanca, y el resto del papel se pondrá azul. El resultado es una impresión en azul y blanco. ¡Es una de las técnicas fotográficas más antiguas y es muy fácil de probar!
