Job Title: Vice President of Community Engagement

Job Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt 

Reporting Relationships: Reports directly to the President/CEO. Direct supervision of the Director of Conservation and the Education Director and their teams as well as the Graphic Designer and Social Media and Marketing Coordinator.

Location: Nature Center at Pia Okwai (South Salt Lake) and Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park (Salt Lake City)

Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000 

Benefits: Access to Health Insurance, Paid time off, Sick leave, access to 401k retirement after 1 year. 

Job Summary: The Vice President of Community Engagement is a top leadership position that will guide alignment of organization programs and services with the needs and wants of the community. The VP of Community Engagement will directly develop, co-develop, manage and implement programs while also working with other staff, partners and volunteers to further the impact of our work. 

The VP of Community Engagement will oversee the organization’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) efforts and work with staff, volunteers, and partners to embed JEDI work in operations. The position will oversee organization-wide program assessment efforts and provide leadership for Marketing and Graphics staff.

  • Speak any of the languages the communities we serve speak. This is preferred but not a requirement.

Timeline: Open until filled. 

  • Job Responsibilities: This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: 
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for Tracy Aviary’s community engagement efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison between the organization and the community (neighbors, partners, and others), while also coordinating relationships between other members of the organization and the community. 
  • Provide leadership for the Education and Conservation Departments. 
  • Oversee organization-wide program assessment using goals, objectives and timelines to track progress. 
  • Provide leadership for the organization’s JEDI efforts.
  • Supervise marketing and graphic staff. Be prepared to lead the organization as circumstances warrant doing so such as when the President/CEO is off the grid or otherwise unavailable.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to speak, read, and/or write in multiple languages.
  • Experience as an educator.
  • Interest and passion for nature.

Comments: Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, early and late hours, promotional events, and other necessary times as needed.
