Position Type: Full-time, year-round
Location: This position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah
Salary Range: $76,856 – $92,456 depending on years of experience

Description: This position is ideal for a results-driven, well-organized development leader who excels in relationship building. The Development Director must have a passion for our work that is in service of wildlife, land, and our community. Our development and fundraising activities are currently managed by the Executive Director and our Communications Specialist. This role will consolidate the position and allow us to improve our outcomes and implement our new Strategic Plan. The Development Director will have support from the Executive Director and a team of skilled staff who add significant capacity in our grantmaking and grant reporting. The Development Director will work in our Salt Lake City office with other staff to execute Sageland Collaborative’s Strategic Plan and fundraising goals. The Development
Director’s areas of responsibility will be:

  • Develop Annual Fundraising Plan.
  • Lead the development of an annual Fundraising
  • Plan to sustain and grow Sageland Collaborative’s support from individuals, private foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Ensure fundraising strategies and goals align with the Sageland Collaborative’s new Strategic Plan.
  • Work with the Executive Director and team to implement the Plan (2025 revenue budget is $1.2 million).
  • Individual Donors. Identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit individuals to build a community of long-term supporters utilizing a variety of strategies including monthly, major, and legacy gifts. Facilitate 3 to 4 field trips each year to cultivate and sustain major donors.
  • Private Foundations. Manage existing portfolio and calendar of existing foundation proposals and reports. Includes developing proposals and grant reports for 15 private foundations a year and overseeing staff who lead on 20 technical government-funded grants a year. Support sustaining relationships with existing foundations and seek new opportunities.
  • Corporate Sponsorships. Seek opportunities to partner with corporations based on shared values for wildlife, land, and community.
  • Endowment Management. Support the Executive Director with management of our endowment to ensure our long-term sustainability.
  • Data Management and Analysis. Use CRM (i.e., Little Green Light) to manage donations, analyze fundraising trends, and evaluate performance. Track volunteer and donor engagement and retention rates. Use information to make data-driven decisions that help Sageland Collaborative achieve our fundraising goals.
  • Reporting. Track and report progress, trends, and outcomes to the Executive Director on a monthly basis. Report progress to the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis and use data for setting development goals and plans.
  • Fundraising Appeals. Use mailings and marketing software to implement at least three major fundraising appeals (Impact Report, Live PC Give PC, End of Year). Ensure website fundraising processes are in order.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Outreach Team. The Development Director will work closely with communications staff to develop and implement fundraising events, communications, and marketing materials.
  • Development and Finance Committees. Provide leadership to members of the Board of Director’s Development and Finance Committees in order to achieve their fundraising goals and broaden the culture of philanthropy in the organization.

  • Highly motivated with the ability to be self-directed, detail oriented, and a collaborator
  • Demonstrated development and fundraising skills, including major gifts
  • Demonstrated use of creative thinking to tackle complex projects in collaboration with a team
  • Excellent in-person and written communication skills for grantmaking and donor audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in incorporating principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into your work (e.g., through professional, volunteer, or personal community organizing)
  • Experience using CRMs to track donors, analyze data, and measure outcomes.
  • Ability to cultivate major donors, a pathway from volunteer to donors, and corporate sponsorships
  • Ability to manage a grantmaking portfolio, with support from technical staff
  • Ability to work with our team to nurture our culture of philanthropy and establish individual fundraising goals
