Maintenance Worker (Trails)

These position is located in Joshua Tree National Park, in the Facility Division.
This job announcement is open to receive applications from the first 50 applicants. The job announcement will remain open until either the quota of 50 applicants, or 10/22/2024 is reached. Duties
These positions are Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty (August) status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Joshua Tree National Park is November – May but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.
DUTIES:
Performs trails maintenance duties such as:
- Maintain trails to standard by cleaning water bars, removing excess rock on tread, brushing, cutting trail edge berm, digging dip drains and clears trail of trees, obstacles and debris.
- Laying out and constructing new trail in rocky, mountainous terrain, and in performing landscape restoration of abandoned trails.
- Removing windfalls, felling trees, and utilizing block, tackle, and winches for moving and placing heavy objects
- Construct water bars, retaining bars, causeway, dry/wet rock retaining wall and rip-rap.
Routinely assist trail leaders in supervising crew members in the concepts and techniques of trail work and back country living ethics. - See vacancy posting for full requirements and to apply: USAJOBS – Job Announcement
