Join the National Park Service as a Utility Systems Operator Repairer (USRO) at Yellowstone National Park! We have 4 vacancies available for skilled professionals to maintain and operate water and wastewater systems across various districts within the park.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Activate, operate, maintain, and deactivate lift stations, dump stations, buildings, comfort stations, and ancillary equipment.
  • Read meters, check monitoring devices, pressure switches, gauges, pumps, and motors; troubleshoot and reset switches and breakers.
  • Assist with the collection and processing of water samples in a state-certified lab, performing bacteriological analysis following QA/QC requirements.
  • Aid in sewage pumping operations and perform scheduled and emergency repairs on water and wastewater systems.

Locations and Conditions:
West District: Includes West Yellowstone, MT, Madison Junction, WY, and Old Faithful, WY. Elevation ranges from 7,000-7,700 feet with temperatures from -30°F in winter to 80°F in summer. Amenities include a medical clinic, post office, grocery stores, and school in West Yellowstone. Winter access is via snowmobile with groomed roads.

North District: Elevation of 6,200 feet with temperatures ranging from 70°F in summer to sub-zero in winter. Community facilities available in Gardiner, MT, including a school, stores, and medical clinic. Free bus transportation is provided between Mammoth and Gardiner.

Lake District: Elevation of 7,700 feet with temperatures from 70°F in summer to sub-zero in winter. Winter snow accumulation averages 30 inches, and interior park roads are closed to wheeled vehicles, accessible only via snow machine. Closest amenities in Cody and Jackson, WY. Summer facilities include a store, medical clinic, and restaurant.
