Join Shenandoah National Park as an Ecologist specializing in fire ecology! This position involves leading and advising on fire management and ecological studies for the Mountains to the Seas Zone (VA & MD) and Allegheny Zone (OH, WV, & Western PA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the program lead and technical advisor in fire ecology for the fire management program.
  • Apply a systems approach to study and analyze ecological systems and the impact of wildland fire management.
  • Develop and implement scientific monitoring protocols to assess ecosystem responses to fire management activities.
  • Manage all aspects of monitoring design, data collection, analysis, and reporting related to fire ecology.
  • Conduct sampling for statistically valid plot distributions and design.
  • Support fire management through the development and monitoring of fuels management projects and wildfire objectives.
  • Prepare management and scientific reports, making recommendations based on findings.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team on land management plans, fire management plans, and compliance documents.
  • Provide expertise in developing strategies and objectives for wildland fire activities considering various social, political, and resource concerns.
